Fall Fun on the Farms

Saturdays & Sundays, Sept. 7 – Oct. 13

10am – 5pm

This is not your typical fall experience! Lend a hand in our bustling farm kitchens as we prepare favorites like horseradish and sauerkraut, do some pickling, and use flowers to create natural dyes for warm winter woolens. See the power of 19th- century machines, pulled by horses, harvest grains and plow fields. Everyone can try something new while exploring the past like never before.  Special activities during the weekend include:

Fall Plowing Weekend (Sept 7 & 8)

• A farm is a busy place! See the power of 19th- century machines, pulled by horses, harvest grains and plow fields.

Beer Brewing Weekend (Sept 14 & 15)

• Help harvest the hops, thresh barley, and see how beer can be used in cooking and baking! Join us on Sunday as we focus on Home Brewing today and in our historic kitchens.

Winter is Coming: Part 1 (Sept 21 & 22)

• Get ready for Winter as we explore what it takes to fill the pantry for a long WI winter. Learn how make sauerkraut, how to pickle and preserve produce, and help pack the root cellar before the snow flies!

Winter is Coming: Part 2 (Sept 28 & 29)

• Get ready for Winter as we explore what it takes to take care of yourself and you things during a long WI winter. Learn how make home remedies like salves and syrups, how to care for leather, and help stuff a straw tick mattress before the snow flies!

Butchering Weekend (Oct. 5 & 6)

• At our immigrant farms you can see traditional butchering, and the kitchens will be bustling with autumn preparations.

Apprentice Weekend (Oct. 12 & 13)

• Join us as we celebrate the close of another season of Fall Fun on the Farms with hands-on mini-apprenticeships (5-10 minute activities for all ages) across the site- help make sausage, help harvest in the gardens, help in the woodshed, shoe shop, general store, and more!
